Grant's First Birthday Party!

We had a beautiful, sunny day to celebrate Grant's first birthday!! My parents were so kind as to provide the party location...many of the birthdays in our family are in the summer so the lake just feels like the right place to have birthday parties! (We were missing a few special people this day.  Especially sad was Aunt Meg - she was in Seattle being a big girl and working hard!  We celebrated with Grant's other grandparents a few days later in VA!)

Thanks to Pinterest and Etsy I was filled with birthday decoration ideas. I don't think I will have as much inspiration (or as much time to think about it) in years to come and Grant will only turn one once so I make no apologies! I'm didn't really want a theme but bright and colorful was what seemed to emerge.

My friend Katie has an amazing cake recipe that my mom offered to make Grant (along with her famous icing). He had his own smash cake!

I'm way behind here guys...to be honest at this point I'm posting mainly so I have a record of what we did when as it seems my memory is hiding away somewhere with my pre-baby body. I blame it on almost a year of not sleeping through the night. If anybody is still reading (aside from my parents and sister) thanks for hanging in there.

Anyway, we've had a super fun summer so far despite the terrible rain and humidity that keep trying to hold us back :) 2 awesome weddings, a bday party for Grant, a trip to VA....

I'll get to pictures at some point. In the meantime here is a video of Grant that makes me laugh. He loves music these days and I hope someday his dance moves will be better than those of either of his parents.

One Year

Grant! I can't believe it has been one year since this day.

You came 10 days early and a little unexpectedly but we were so ready to meet you.

I have so many emotions today as I think back on your first year on earth. You are my greatest joy, the light of my life, the best thing I have ever done. I give thanks each and every day for the gift that is your life and for the opportunity to be your mama.

Life with you is an adventure my sweet, easygoing, curious, and energetic boy.

Now you are walking and laughing and growing more independent by the day. The time has flown and you are no longer a baby. It is such a delight to see the person you are becoming that I wouldn't have it any other way.

We love you sweet boy.
