VA Trip 2nd Stop

So our trip was a bit disjointed but technically our second stop was to see Matt's parents at their new lake condo.

Maui heard about our trip to the lake and wanted to join :)

We convinced her to stay with her own parents and were on our way. On one of our first nights at the lake there was a huge storm. It made me feel like I was home again - we've had quite a bit of rain this year if you remember.

Luckily, after that it cleared up most days and we had LOTS of sunshine. Virginia threw her best weather at us for most of the trip. It was heaven. 85 and sunny - a welcome change from our typical weather this spring!

I spent most of my time in this outfit.

Headed here. I worked a bit on my tan so you hopefully won't be scared when you see future pics of me.

We also spent lots of time on the boat.

Will also enjoyed herself :)

Matt did LOTS of this.

I did a little bit as well.

We rode all the way down to the dam. I always find these a little creepy. Not sure why but they're cool to see regardless!

Other than that we spent lots of time hanging out on the porch enjoying the view. Very relaxing!

VA Trip - First Stop

Our first stop on our trip wasn't actually in VA. We stopped to see our friends Hadyn and Samantha in Annapolis, MD first :)

They're the ones that were married in Jackson Hole last fall - remember? So gorgeous.

Anyway. My camera was packed deep in my suitcase so I only used the iphone - apologies for the bad photos.

It only took us 10 hours to get to MD (a quick trip compared to the usual 12 we do to VA). We were only there for about 15 hours but packed in a lot of fun. H & S took us to this restaurant...

to have an Annapolis specialty....

I haven't seen this much food at once since Thanksgiving :)

Neither of us knew how to eat crabs so Samantha had to give us a lesson.

Matt decided to ignore her advice because all he wanted to do was use the mallet.

He ended up eating a lot more crab poop than the rest of us.

The girls' side of the table had more napkins than crab remains.

The boys' side - not so much.

We also celebrated a birthday :)

I didn't take pics that night of our trip to a bar on "ego alley" in downtown Annapolis. Bars in Annapolis are on the water and can be reached by boat - you also stand outside along the water while drinking - adding an element of danger to the normal bar scene....Luckily none of us fell in.

Sadly, we had to leave the next morning but we had fun while it lasted!

Construction Week 7

Hi everyone...sorry for the lack of updates. We have just returned from a wonderful 10 day vacation to Virginia. We had lots of sunshine, warmth, and time with family and friends. It was awesome!

Anyway, it will take me a while to get the photos together so I'll share a house update first. They made lots of progress while we were gone and it was so fun to see it after a week away.

First up - the kitchen! Cabinet doors are on....the countertops are being cut now and will be installed soon.

The new shower, toilet and vanity are in upstairs. No more pink - guess I will have to that bathroom a new name :)

Not quite ready for use, but it will be soon!

While I was in VA, I picked up the window treatment my mother-in-law had made for our guest room. It's going to look good!

The built-ins and new mantle are done around the fireplace!

I love them. See how we had to cut around the radiator? I was SO worried about them looking symmetrical, but our builder is so great he figured it out for me. This is how the radiator cover is going to go on.

There will be 2 shelves for each unit (2 on the left side and 1 on the right).

Our new outside light is up :)

The windowbox is done! WOW I love it too! We had it made out of fir and he did an amazing job. I'm going to paint the brackets underneath white but we are going to leave the box itself natural. I can't wait to fill it with flowers :)

Construction Week 6

WOW. 6 weeks? Sometimes it feels like it has been forever and sometimes it feels like the weeks are flying by.

Anyway. I have a confession folks. I have been just plain lazy in the blogging department. I've done all this great house research and decision making that I'm just too worn out to devote much time to writing about it. My new camera needs to be charged and I haven't had time to dig out the charger so I've just been using my iphone instead to take pictures. I haven't been editing them.

HOWEVER - school is out for summer - WOO HOO! I'm working summer school but that's super low key and fun. We see a small light at the end of the tunnel in the house department AND we have lots of fun time with friends and family. So I guess that's a promise that soon I'll get better with the blogging :)

For now - I figured you'd rather see blurry iphone photos than not see any at all so here you go!

I'll start at the bottom. The dryer no longer vents into a bucket. I showed you that right? Pretty sure that's not up to code these days.

It doesn't change the fact that the dryer is still old and slow, but it now has a nice metal vent that actually goes outside AND an updated electrical outlet :) Yay for laundry.

Moving up - the basement door is no longer accordion style. It's the little things that make us happy.

The other doors that had accordions are now wide open and have new trim to match the kitchen.

All the cabinets are in! Doors/drawers are waiting on hardware. I just picked it so they will have to wait a few more days for it to come in.

Do you like my pendant lights? I LOVE them! I found them here and the shop owner was wonderful to work with. They were so much cheaper than anything else I looked at and were exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend them!

I realize one is missing. Don't worry. It's here - not sure why but I try not to ask questions.

We moved the fridge over to the right, changing where it was in the original plan, but I think it's going to work out better.

I forgot one cabinet view but you will see it eventually. OK moving on.

They (unexpectedly) had to rip off the fireplace surround to build our shelves, dang. See our new crown molding?

Big news upstairs. Big pink is gone for good.

Ahhhhh.

Ever wonder what an old drain pipe looks like? Me neither but here you go. It's amazing anything drained down that.

Heading outside - Vermont Gas has been here. Maybe we will be able to use our stove before August!
